LAUNCH Minecraft with More RAM

Post  axeblade346 on Mon Oct 11, 2010 1:26 pm

WORKS IN ALL 32-Bit windows Version (64-bit in testing - Java is not in its normal place.)
It runs better in W7 Ultimate due to Native Unix code support (Linux is based of off Unix)

Step 1.
Download the LINUX version of the Minecraft.jar
http://www.minecraft.net/download.jsp

Step 2.
Rename it to MinecraftL.jar and THEN paste it into your %appdata%/roaming/.minecraft folder

Step 3.
Right click on it and Select OPEN WITH... and selected Java (might need to Browse to it)

Step 4.
Launch it and see if it works (just check if login is there - that is enough)

Step 5.
---Values might make it bomb out, change it lower
Right click and make a New -> text file.
Copy and Paste
Code:

java -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -cp MinecraftL.jar net.minecraft.LauncherFrame
into it. Save it as RamLaunch.bat (or whatever you want.)
Run ramlaunch to test it.
If it open up. go back and edit the bat file (right click edit)
the Value of Xmx????M is MAX ram in MB to use (try 1/2 of your ram)
the Value of Xms????M is Start ram in MB to use (try 1/4 of your ram)
Try it - if it works up the Max ram , if Not lower BOTH.
NOTE - Minecraft will only use what is needed , this only chages its allocated start and max amounts. (more room to expand too, not bigger game use)

GO on play around with it.

To make sure that Windows can find the Java compiler and interpreter:

*

Select Start -> Computer -> System Properties -> Advanced system settings -> Environment Variables -> System variables -> PATH.

[ In Vista, select Start -> My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Environment Variables -> System variables -> PATH. ]

[ In Windows XP, Select Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Environment Variables -> System variables -> PATH. ]

* Prepend C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin; to the beginning of the PATH variable.

* Click OK three times.

in my caase the path was

C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin
